U.S. Borax, part of Rio Tinto, is a global leader in the supply and science of borates—naturally-occurring minerals containing boron and other elements. From the very beginning, we have been on the forefront of borate technology, research, and development.

We're finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs. U.S. Borax supplies around 30% of the world’s need for refined borates from our world-class mine in Boron, California, about 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Our customers rely on boron and borates to create an extraordinarily diverse range of products essential to life and to modern living.

Commitment to Our Communities

Our communities—both those where we operate and those we serve—are a priority for us. In Boron, California—our home since 1872—we maintain the Borax Visitor Center, which provides community education about borates. We also team with area leaders to support local nonprofit organizations through the Borax Visitor Center Foundation. And, we encourage all our employees to take an active role as volunteers within their home communities.
