As we celebrate 150 years of U.S. Borax this year, we’d like to highlight our business in India. Did you know we have been supplying Indian companies with their borates needs for approximately 50 years?
Since India doesn’t have any borate mines, the market is largely import-driven. The current size of the refined and mineral borates market in India today is upward of 200,000 MT.
Although our mine is located in California, we have a dedicated office in New Delhi. The India-based borates team handles the end-to-end order generation and fulfillment process. Our customer-centric approach, problem solving skills, and world-class product are some of our strengths. We take great pride in being the flag-bearers of the borates industry in the Indian sub-continent.
Borates in agriculture
U.S. Borax was a research pioneer into the use of borates as a micronutrient in Indian agriculture in the early 2000s. The benefits of borates were relatively unknown to Indian farmers before that, and the total annual consumption of borates was just a few thousand tonnes at the time. Now, we have a dedicated agriculture team to assist growers in the region.
